Join the Trek to Talloires!
Tufts University community members are invited to take the Trek to Talloires!
Your voluntary participation in this virtual challenge gives you another great
opportunity to improve and maintain better overall health as a component of
the
Healthy @ Tufts wellness initiative.
What is the Trek to Talloires?
It's simple: we'll log our daily activities online and watch our progress on a
virtual route from Medford to Talloires.
Many of us work out regularly, and some of us may even be in training for one
enterprise or another. Many of us have been supporters of the
President's Marathon Challenge
through sponsorships of students, friends, and colleagues. Through our pledges
and our cheers, we have played supporting roles. Now we can take a more active
role by exercising our way
virtually all the way to Talloires!
Join us. Take the trek!
How do I participate?
Register for the Trek to Talloires by creating a login and password on the
sign up
page and begin logging the minutes of physical activities you do each day to
move along the map towards Talloires. Whether you bike, walk, ski, run,
swim — any activity you do counts! You can make multiple entries per day.
For example, if you bike 15 minutes to the grocery store to pick up some milk
or food for the dog; and then take a 30-minute walk at lunch, you would log
a 15-minute biking activity as well as a 30-minute walking activity.
I hear there are prizes
Yes there are prizes and the more minutes you log for all activities, the better
your chances in the drawings to be held throughout the event. See the
prize winners section in the FAQ for more details.
When you sign up you choose from
one of three virtual routes to complete
over your personal 14 week challenge. You may want to go to Talloires and back,
just one-way to the French Alps, or your schedule may allow only shorter
daily walks to Davis Square. For more details, please see the
goals section in the FAQ.
Sounds great! When can I start?
Start on
Monday, January 4, 2010 or join anytime after that and finish before
midnight on
April 12, 2010.

The Details:
- Participants earn one chit for each hour of activity, (up to a maximum of 180), which
increases the chance of winning prizes via random drawings to be held throughout the duration
of the game that begins January 4, 2010 and ends April 12, 2010. Every participant gets one
entry for the drawings, and an additional entry for each chit earned through the duration of
the contest. (The total number of prizes will depend on number of entries. A full list of
winners will be available on this site after April 12, 2010.)
- Prize winners must be affiliated with Tufts University as faculty, staff, students,
alumni, and/or Tufts parents (of a current or former student) and a U.S. resident.
(People from other countries can participate but are not eligible to win prizes.)

- The 26 stages each vary in virtual length from 6 to 3,444 miles. Each stage is assigned
a specific number of hours to complete. You will earn more chits the further you go!
-
All times are measured in 15-minute intervals, and all competitors will go the same
distance for each 15-minute interval, regardless of the sport.
-
Only time counts in this contest. Give it enough time and you will get to
Talloires. (Hey, it’s VIRTUAL fun, not reality)!
Two Grand Prizes will be awarded (one random drawing will be held that will include all
participants, and another drawing will include those who completed the challenge).
-
Grand Prize Castle Hill includes lodging for two nights in the Turret Suite at the
world-famous Inn at Castle Hill in Newport, Rhode Island.
-
Grand Prize Boathouse Sports consists of 2 GORE-TEX® Facet Jackets as
